Whip it…into shape…it’s not too late…to whip it, whip it good! Are those even the right lyrics? I have this habit of creating my own senseless lyrics to songs I hear that stick in my brain so well that I’m not sure which lyrics are mine or not. Sure, I could look it up, but I’d much rather tell you about this chocolate creation instead.
Yes. I said it: chocolate. It’s my Achilles heel. I couldn’t care less about all the salty chips and fried foods in the world, but if you offer my chocolate, you might just become my new best friend.
But chocolate doesn’t have to be a dirty word. In fact, chocolate can be healthy! It’s mostly known for having flavonoids that function as antioxidants in our bodies, but it also has iron, manganese, magnesium, and zinc. As if I needed a reason.
Avocado and coconut oil are also touted for their health benefits as well, and even though they have a lot of fat, it’s the healthy fat. Your body requires fat for important functions such as absorbing fat-soluble vitamins and supporting nerve function. Plus, a little goes a long way, as it keeps you full longer. Cutting fat out of your diet is not a good idea.
And last but not least, cinnamon! This spice has been shown to rev up your metabolism and help you burn fat. Now, keep in mind that choking down jars of cinnamon from your spice cabinet is not going to magically turn you into a model on the cover of Sports Fitness. Healthy eating habits and exercise is key, but every little bit can help.
Cinnamon Chocolate Mousse
Makes about 2 servings
- 1 Avocado
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/8 cup coconut oil
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Combine all ingredients into a food processor. Mix well for a few minutes. Go ahead and warn the household about the impending noise; the avocado needs a little time to get nice and whipped.
- Scoop it out into a sealable container and let it set at least an hour in your fridge. Eat it like it is, or top it with fresh fruit like strawberries of banana.
